Tweeter for Rectilinear XI

I picked up a decent pair of Rectilinear XI bookshelf speakers today. One of the tweeters is not working. Can anyone recommend a suitable replacement tweeter? I have a spare Pioneer for the Highboy but the flange isn't wide enough, it just falls through the hole.

Did you try the battery test? It may just be a bad cap or crossover component; if so, you could make it work with the original tweeter.

Good point, the kicker is the grills are nailed on. I will check the DCR and run the wires from the crossover to a working tweeter.

The grills have some kind of staples/nails, and also some velcro (probably in case you break the nails) to hold them in. If you have a thin flat-head screwdriver, you can pry under the grills in the sides (being careful not to scratch or dent the cabinet too much). Then, when you uproot the staples, you can just pull the grill off easily (velcro). Unscrew the woofer, use the flat-head screwdriver to lift it up (it's placed in about a 1/2 cm recess in the cabinet), and under the damping material is the crossover (DO NOT put the woofer on top of the tweeter when you take it out--just set it on, say, the corner of the cabinet). After you finish inside the cabinet, you can just put the grills back on with the velcro.

Good call yddet12, it's not the tweeter! When I have more time, I will check the solder joints, cap and l-pad to see where the problem lies. I have had my share of vintage speakers but haven't run into a bad cap yet.:scratch2:
