Tweeter replacement 8 ohm instead of 16 CELESTION HF1300

Hi guys,

I know there will be some effect but... need to know what.

I have just bought little b&w dm4. And they have a blown Celestion hf 1300 16ohm tweeter.

I have two spares but they are 8ohm.

Essentially the same tweeter.

What will be the effect technically speaking if I swap 16ohm tweeters out with 8ohm?

It will raise the crossover point. If the stock tweeter cuts out at 2000Hz, the new one will cut out at 4000Hz. You'll have a hole between those frequencies. The high frequency level will probably also be different.

You can put an 8 ohm resistor in series with the new tweeter so that the crossover sees the 16 ohms it expects. That should put the crossover frequency back where it belongs, but it might attenuate the upper frequencies too much. I'd start with that and see how it sounds.

From there, you could experiment with two resistors of different values, one in series and one in parallel. Your ability to match the original sound will depend on the relative sensitivity of the different tweeters.
