Hello.... I have a Denon avr 3600, which has a pre outs and also a tape2 loop switch. I also have a Denon AVR 5800 that I would like to connect together. Hopefully someone is familiar with these early generation AVRs and can tell me how to hook both of them together. The Denon AVR 5800 is a flagship in its year, but does not have a tape2 loop/monitor option (which is very important to me)...where-as the Denon AVR 3600, being a lesser model....does. I am an avid analogue fan with lots of vintage equipment, but also want to tie in my home theater. Thanks in advance for your help

Welcome to AK!! Not sure if I'll be able to help but why do you want to hook two AVR's together? What are you trying to accomplish by hooking these together?
 
Well....I have a 2/3 octave equalizer and a dbx unit that run through my 3600. If I run only a 5800 then I can only connect to a zone, which would have to remain on and will only be good for stereo.....I also would take advantage of the 170wpc that the 5800 offers instead of the 110wpc of the 3600. I know its a little overkill, but hey...I have it and don't really want to get rid of the 3600. AVR with a tape two loop are hard to find and I found that most early generation denons have them, except for the 5800. I got such a good deal (free) on it I could not turn it down. I like manipulating my music and that is mainly the reason. Plus I just want to see what can be done with these two Denons. I have had the 3600 for a long time and it is a great unit. The 5800 is just that much better...what a beast.

I've been playing with this stuff since the early 60,s, both professionally and as a hobby. I gotta say, I'm flummoxed on this one. Sometimes, you just can't get there from here. Good luck, though/
 
Yes... exactly. Only missing option that I want on the 5800 is a tape2 loop/switch. So far I am just
"Flummoxed"... ha ha.... with that option I will drop the 3600 or possibly even look for a 5700 or 4800...which does have that option. Again, I got this AVR 5800 for welll.....nothing. btw...I dont have it yet. It's on it's way via a cousin...so all I did was read the online manual. Who knows it might have that option!

did you figure this out? looks like it has a tape record loop, as specified on p. 36 of the manual:

as well as has two tape loop input/outputs... specified on p. 6 of the manual.
