Two Preamplifiers

Has anyone here attempted two preamplifiers in one system? I have a friend who has two preamps in one system, and states it is pure audio bliss. He uses a 6DJ8 linestage into a 6SN7 linestage into his amplifier. I haven't heard it yet, but am curious if anyone else has tried this system?

I guess you could.. seems like it would make more sense to buy/make one preamp that you actually like the sound of though. I am not one to add things in the signal paths, so I probably would not do it.

In one of my set ups I have 2 pre's set up. I can turn on one or the other or both if I want. One pre is tube and the other ss. It is sonic bliss to my ears. I've had 3 pre's hooked up in one set up but that puts it over the edge and gets just plain too complicated.

Actually I do use 2. One, a TA-E1000ESD, is used as an audio processor, eq, dynamics, reverb, and is connected to the "processor" input of my TA-E80ES analog preamp. I can always remove the processing preamp whenever I want. Works quite well and offers a lot of flexability.

I'm gonna have to agree with Evan on this. Then I have it easy to swap stuff out, kinda like putting a LP on, carefully unhooking and swaping when the mood strikes, it's part of the ritual. I agree even more on the signal path and multiple switching that goes with that territory.

I'm working on NO pre. The line inputs of my Motorola tube amp are on the top of the chassis, so it's an easy matter to unplug/plug patch cords when switching over from tuner to digital [DAC and tuner both have variable outs]. I plan to listen to LP's via my Stax headphones. Less gear = better sound [all else being equal].
