I checked out our local thrift, lo and behold I see two components taped to each other as if they were part of a set. The bizarre thing was both of these items were receivers, both selling for $36.50. The top one, the one I was actually interested in was 1981 Sony Legato Linear STR VX6 receiver and the bottom one was 1983 Sony STR-VX550 A/V receiver.
Is there anyone familiar with the Linear Legato line? This seems to be an excellent sounding receiver and very well built. The later 1983 A/V unit is fully functional, but about a quarter of the receiver the Legato. It is amazing the build quality change between 1981 and 1983. The Legato is well built and solid where the A/V unit is a bit junky with unreliable and wonky switch gear.
