That is the infamous good doctor. I would avoid him like the plague.

Those auctions are just for the "improved" mid/high towers. He's selling a bunch of servo subs tied together in lieu of the woofer towers.

Given the level of modifications he does to these, it's not clear to me these bear any resemblance to RS-1s. They may be good, may not, but they're not RS-1s any more.

at least those resemble RSIs. we've also discussed his "improved" RS2.5's here. mounting those Monsoon mids horizontally like he does with those has never been done elsewhere that i have seen, probably because the dispersion pattern is no longer ideal when turned 90 degrees.

The "horizontal" dispersion arrays have always left me cold. Infinity at one time said that the 2000As could be played with the wide side horizontal which leaves the tweeters shotgunning the side to side dispersion. This gave a spotty dispersion pattern and lead to a really bad sound. The tweeters in the early (gray midrange) SS-1 were tilted from side to side instead of being flat to the front of the cabinet. Again with a spotty effect.

Come to think of it there was a B & W electrostatic tweeter speaker system way back when that had a horizontal line of tweeters. So it wasn't just Infinity.

I have seen that Dr. post before on eBay. The one pair of RS-1b's is complete and orginal. That other pair clearly states a modified pair. I have never seen him sell any of his listings, not that he doesn't, but he seems pretty honest and discloses what he has done. But for the most part I like the pair of IRS Beta's he has for sell. But he has them priced for 6,000 dollars and I really don't know if I would pay that much for a pair considering the diffuclty getting parts for them when they fail. If finding spare parts reasonably was not a problem, I wouldn't have a problem paying that much for a pair of Beta's, as I am sure they are wonderful speakers.

Both auctions ended without a bid. I agree, he is using eBay as an ad to sell outside the site.

The other 9 auctions that he had at the same time didn't receive a bid either.

I am just amazed at this, what ever the situation is.

I'm unsubscribing to my own thread. It has run its course.
