Two track recording on 4 track machine

Hi, I am in possession of a 4 track revox B77 Mk2. However I stumbled upon a collection of 2 track pre-recorded tapes which interests me. Could it be played on my reel to reel? How common are 2 track tapes?

While it IS theoretically possible, the alignment of the 2-track`s signal path will probably not be a good match for a 4 track`s heads, resulting in a less-than-ideal results. You should look around for a decent 2 track deck, something like maybe a Pioneer RT-1050, sometimes they show up on the auction sites for relatively small money....

I had the same question, and found the thread linked below. Another AKer kindly transcribed a couple 2-track tapes for me. A 2-track deck would be nice to have, but I would very rarely use it.

You can't play them correctly without balance adjustment, and one channel will be more noisy than the other.
