TX-9100 vs TX-8100

I just purchased an SA-9100 off the 'Bay and I guess I'm now in the market for a matching tuner . My first inclination is to try to find a minty TX-9100, but it seems that the TX-8100 is a little easier to find, particularly in excellent condition. What to do???? Anyone care to share their opinions on these tuners?

OK- I've got both units (TX-8100 FS on eBay right now)

TX8100- 4 Gang FM (3 Gang AM)
TX9100- 5 Gang FM (3 Gang AM)
adds second level of muting suppression
adds pulse noise cut control

TX9100 generally features better selectivity, sensitivity, a higher signal-to-noise ratio, and a more complicated circuit (35 transistors to the 19 listed for the TX8100...no idea why Pioneer lists that as a relevant spec!)

Both units are impeccably built, and perform very well...I know Pioneer has made more expensive tuners over the years, but for me, this whole series is the best looking...something about those beautiful blue lamps!

That is one fine looking tuner! I agree with you, I think this is the best looking series. I like the styling that allows you to seamlessly mix and match with the SA series amps. I generally don't have much trouble pulling in stations in my area - so either would probably be okay. Whatever I get, I want it to be in excellent shape - so we may be talking again... soon. Thanks for the feedback.

Siamac, that is one FINE looking stack of gear Beautiful, the more I look at the 70' to 74' Pioneer stuff the more I like it. I had an SA9100 amp for a few days, it had output problems and had to be returned to the eBay seller But I loved it when it was working! Great stuff, very very everything Vintage gear is about :thmbsp:
