U-Turn Orbit Plus

Art K.

The Voodoo You Do!
I know there have been U-Turn threads here, but I haven’t seen one that I wanted to reference here. I’m putting together a real inexpensive second setup. I already have the Rega IO and second Audiolab 6000CDT. Last week I received a Schiit Mimby…jury is still out on this piece, and an Andover Audio Songbird. I was going to buy a Rega Planar 1 for this setup but the recent price increase puts it at silly money for what you get. In the matte finish it retails for $725 now. Not happening. So I think I’ve pivoted to the U-Turn Orbit Plus. There is also the AT LP120. Most accounts of them compared favors the U-Turn. I also like that they are hand assembled in Woburn, Ma. Thoughts?

I've heard that the Y-Turn units have improved since introduction but don't have one myself.
If it were my choice, I'd pick the U-Turn over the AT.

Let us know what you decide.

U-Turn is a great choice IMO. I owned one of the real wood plinth ones for several years and it provided excellent sound and service. Their customer service is fantastic too.

Congrats on you new turntable. It was on my short list.
When I purchased a new turntable after years w/o I eyed the Rega Planar 1 and the 2 (a little pricey for me) and glanced at the Orbit. In the end I purchased a Thorens TD203 w/ Ortofon 2m Blue because I got a very favorable price. The only issue for me w/ the Planar 1 was the lack of anti-skating adjustment, but I've read ways around it. BTW, I only have one music system and wish I had spent more money on a $1100 turntable (4 yrs ago), but my budget as always was very tight.
I'm sure you will keep us informed as things move forward.

The Planar 1 arrived safe and sound. Unbeknownst to me it’s a matte black affair which would have been my preference anyway. LP Gear refunded me on the AT cartridge as it is out of stock with no ETA on it’s arrival. I ordered an LP Gear elliptical stylus for the Carbon.

I read LP Gears rap on their stylus being better than stock but I don't see how. Doesn't the Rega have a carbon cantilever too?
