U-Turn Pluto - Nice sound but not enough volume

I just received my U-Turn Pluto and plugged it into my system. I have a U-Turn Orbit table with a Grado Black cartridge and the volume just wasn't there. Compared to the rest of my system it was much lower volume wise which I didn't want. I'd had to have my wife change back to TV viewing and have the volume blow her away if I forgot to turn it town.

My old preamp is a Kenwood Basic C2 that sounds fantastic but cuts in and out from time to time. I have to fiddle with the select dial to get it to lock in. Maybe contact cleaner will cure it???

Anyone else think the Pluto just doesn't have enough oomph???

Per its specs, it has 36dB of gain, which does seem a bit on the low side (my MM phono pre has 42dB). So it may in fact be a bit on the quiet side compared to other phono stages.

Contact cleaner like DeOxIt would be where I would start. I've had integrated amps with the same problem, and cleaning the source selection dial/switch did the trick.
 
I had a Kenwood C2 and no amount of DeOxit or any other kind of contact cleaner worked for very long. That's the Achilles heel of that otherwise excellent pre-amp.
The switches and pots are mounted on a board near the back of the unit, connected to the control knobs via shafts, by the way. They looked proprietary when I still had my C2, so I doubt they can be replaced. If the switches/pots can be opened and polished with metal polish (not sandpaper), that might be better than DeOxit.

Where did you find that listed? On hifiengine's page with the specs in the original manual does not state that spec.

That said, I've owned a recapped C2 preamp for years now and the last thing I'd describe it as is being too quiet in volume. I have only vinyl and have never thought the volume was too low and I used MM and low output MCs

On the U-Turn page, I was responding to the comment that the Orbit seemed quiet.
