U2 adopts a new gimmick to send out a message...

I'm spending a lot of time writing about this because I type really slowly. Truly, injustices exist and someone should do something. Well, who and what? When injustice is perpetrated by the rulers of a country there isn't much a private individual can do unless he is Rambo. Now, another nation could use economic or military sanctions. Economic sanctions would certainly have an unfortunate affect on the poor in the country where the injustice exists long before affecting the people in charge. Military sanctions would be viewed as imperialism. I'm sorry, i can't offer a solution will fly, but I can poke holes in paper masks. By the way, I think Bono is sincere, not just after publicity.

Have you followed the Iranian news? Some computer wiz kids on a microblogging site previously dismissed as vain and useless decided to put it upon themselves to try to help the Iranians skirt a communications blackout by keeping Twitter up and running. For a while, the only unfiltered info getting out of iran was on Twitter. Typically, when a government blacks out media during an uprising, the slaughter begins. Well, the media wasn't blacked out, and the slaughter was probably much less than it would have been had nobody been watching. Just the act of there being witnesses can temper the actions of even terrible governments. And for their to be witnesses, people have to at least be paying attention. And these masks at the U2 concert..at least the people that go will now pay some attention to what's going on. Things like this aren't about individual people doing one thing that changes the world. It's about growing a tide of public awareness, that in a world growing smaller by the advent of technology, can have a huge impact.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that a photo op with some bikini babes means that Bono had a orgy with them right after. A picture always means you boinked them. :p
