Ugly speakers?

I own this; it was given to me. Based on the fact that it doesn't work with most decor, and is weird looking to begin with, I guess it hits the ugly criteria.
 
Do you mean intrinsically ugly (i.e., ugly by design) or ugly by circumstance?

In the latter category, my AR-3's are about the saddest-looking pair of good-sounding speakers I've run across. Price was right, though (free).
 
The first thing that came to mind when I saw this thread was also the early AR speakers.
Most of those in this post are big, but I don't think they are ugly.
AR2ax! Now that is an ugly ass speaker!
 
Most VOTs are just too industrial looking for most households and the WAF is very low.

I know what ya mean. I had the chance to pick up a pair but decided to pass since i knew I would get a huge lump on my head if I dragged em in the house.

Know what you mean, given the appearance of most of what I listen to. These are a ball to listen to, but won't be in the parlor soon.
 
The ones on the right are JBL's closest equivalent to the A7, and one of my favorites, but spend scant time in the living room. The horn, while a JBL and JBL driver, are not what would have originally come with this cab, but they work well.
 
Those speakers are indeed ugly .... I feel nausea when I see them :o My Altec Seville are not as ugly but I feel content where they are now ... in my garage :rolleyes: Sound is not everything, looks is not everything but sound and looks should go together IMHO.
 
None of the pictures mikebake has posted so far are of ugly speakers. Well, other than the Norhs and the fool in the field. Otherwise, all them big speakers look beautiful to me.
 
I'm a form follows function guy with speakers, obviously. Fine wood finishes just get $#*'d up in my realm. Anyway, back to the original post, there are some really crappy/weird looking designs for home audio, I just never bother saving them to the hard drive. I'll have to search or keep my eye out.
Pretentious or overpriced speakers that have crappy design behind them are the ugliest in my book. ;)

If I am not mistaken "ugly" here is all about looks, which can only be judged by eyes, NOT hearing or pricing or may I say bias :)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, ugly is like beauty here, it is all in the eye of the beholder....................or as is also said, beauty is skin deep, but ugly goes all the way to the bone...........:D

Sound is not everything???!! I thought that is why we called it audio! We don't listen with our eyes! For a speaker, to me, sound IS everything. That is a speakers job.
I don't mind if a speaker looks good, but I wouldn't want to accept that sound isn't everything. It's everything in my book; closing your eyes and having the music palpable.:)

My Wife made me get rid of my VOTT's for just that reason.

I still have the woofers (416-8a's) but don't know what to do with them.
