UHQR vs normal MFSL vinyl??

Dear All,
I know this is maybe more of a Steve Hoffman forum question but I wondering about the sound of the original UHQR vinyls.
I have had good luck on the few MFSL vinyls I have ( DSOTM, crime of the century.....) and just picked up a UHQR vinyl (of Respighis Festa Roma) that should arrive this week. I understood that both the MFSL and UHQR are mastered at half speed but UHQR are crazy price wise ( I got the Festa Roma for $60) . What is the dfference ? Are their any amatures of UHQR out there? I hope to be wowed by the one coming as I blew the month bvinyl budget on it!:D

I have a copy of The Eagles/Hotel California with that UHQR designation, that I got dirt cheap somewhere, awhile back. It sounds good, but I don't think good "enough" to justify a crazy price tag. Especially when there are about a million "normal" ones out there. ;) But YMMV, you might very well have a recording that makes it worth having. :dunno:

wow........ my Respighi UHQR ( number 417 out of 5000 ) was a great $60 spend! I have the impression sitting next to the orchestra!.wonderful listening experience.

are they pressing UHQR now a days? If not your Reshigi is like 30 years old and if it is this was at a time when thick vinyl was rare. Even MFSL of that era were pressed on 120 gram vinyl.

Yes my UHQR is 30 years old but still has great sonics. I know there was a plan by classic records to bring back the UHQR..... anyone?

wasn't questioning the sonics, they sounded great back then so I know it sounds great now. Enjoy.

From MFSL's Facebook page:

"Ultra High Quality Records (UHQR) MFSL introduced a line of LP records called Ultra High Quality Records. The UHQR series was limited to 5,000 copies per title. The Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club band and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon were chosen for this series as well as a few other titles. Each copy was put in a black box with red lettering on the front indicating that it was a UHQR. It also included a certificate of authenticity and what number your record was of the series. They were pressed on 200 gram vinyl on the master stamper at the JVC company in japan with the strictest quality standards in place.

Engineers MFSL has had a small number (four) of mastering engineers over the years. Currently, Shawn R. Britton is mastering all MFSL titles (as he has been since 1996), and at the time of this writing is coming up to speed with LP cutting. Engineers Stan Ricker (denoted by "SR/2" in the deadwax) and Jack Hunt ("JH") mastered all of MoFi's half-speed vinyl releases in the 1970s and 1980s".

It depends on your playback gear. If your system is not very revealing then you won't benefit from the better pressings. If you don't like them you can always sell them but at least you will have the experience.

Good luck with the lp,
Rick

I would best describe the UHQR record I have as having a strong presence... more detailed than other records...
