I was at Costco yesterday and as I often do, I checked out their music section. What caught my eye were some box sets of CDs. I picked up Ultimate Opera, a selection of excerpts from many famous operas. What surprised me was the price. $9.99 for a five disc set! That works out to be just $2.00 per disc.
Each disc contains over seventy minutes of popular arias, ensembles, choruses and orchestral excerpts from operas. What may set this set apart from other inexpensive classical music box sets one sees is that it is a product of Decca Music Group Limited. All the artists and excerpts are from the Decca catalog; famous world class singers and orchestras, really good stuff. The sound is pretty good even though some excerpts date back to the mono era. Recommended.
