Today we had one of those days where you don't really have anything to do, so we were just lazing around the house, looking at AK, CL, watching tv. I decided to look at the "free" listings on CL, just for giggles. (It's amazing some of the stuff people will give away for free just to have it be gone) It's also amazing the stuff people THINK someone else wants, i.e. "free brush for kindling! You clear it and haul it and it's YOURS!!!"

Well i see an ad... Reel to Reel tapes, Free!

Um, ok, I like tape and it is expensive, I wonder how many this guy has to part with. Click on the ad, THERE ARE OVER 300 TAPES.... most in great shape....FREE!

The tapes took up the whole trunk and backseat stacked 3 ft. high. All it cost was a 50 mile round trip,( less than a quarter tank of gas) and we spent $55 on dinner on the way home... we had to celebrate.

Most of these have stuff on them, some classic rock, classical, local recordings from the 60s and 70s, there is also a TON of jazz, and lots of high school music classes and bands. Supposedly, the guy was a music teacher.

We are still stunned.

As I said, we don't even really know where to put it all...

Look for metal reels, Maxells, TDKs and some Scotchs. Watch out for Ampexs as they may shed. Sony isn't the stuff of dreams either and that goes double for any old reddish tapes, Shamrocks, Concertapes, or Traxx.

Got any prerecorded stuff in there? Some of that might help pay for dinner and gas too.

So we have about half of it unpacked, and we've added that up to about 190 tapes. There are still two boxes and a chairful to shelve. We have been checking out the tapes as we put them away, and 97/100 are in excellent shape. The gentleman who made them literally put his life on them. There are tons of albums recorded, not all documented well, but most have at least some notes on or in them. 80% of the tapes have folded pieces of paper in them telling what is recorded, some with tape counter numbers. This is really amazing, overwhelming, just super cool.

Nope, no over-use of bananas on a scroe like that!
Tapes here are infrequent finds, and nearly always moldy or shedding by the time you find them, due to the climate. I'd almost give the proverbial left testicle for what you just scored, and to think - it was all FREE! :yikes: That's some fantastic kind of Karma, there! Treasure and enjoy those, and the wife who helped you get them, too! :thmbsp:
