So i'm taking some pictures as we speak, my one question is if i want to open up the receiver and clean out the dust i've read i can simply spray it down with simple green cleaning solution is this correct? I have Q-Tips ready with Simple Green and an alternative of 91% Alcohol from the pharmacy

The receiver may have seen s little use but not much at all according to them

I wouldn't spray any wet stuff inside, other than electronic control spray cleaner like Deoxit (there are other brands) into the switches and controls. There's a sticky in another area I'll link later.

Internal cleaning otherwise can usually just be some vacuuming out of dust bunnies. I sometimes use a small paintbrush to lift the dust in the tight spots.

External cleaning can be Simple Green or similar and a sponge or cloth. I often take grimy knobs off to wash them in the sink.
 
So I flipped the unit over and there appears to be little rust spots on the bottom. My first reaction is to get some steel wool.... what do you guys think?20190604_204156.jpg

Don't attack it. All base panels do that and if you scrub it with steel wool, you'll wreck it totally. Just wipe it over with a penetrating oil and dry it off with a rag.
 
The Stanton is a decent cartridge. I think it's the equivalent of a 500. You could do a lot worse. As far as cleaning your unit get some deoxit and clean all the pots and switches. Also get some q-tips and the deoxit and clean all the Jack's. If you have a shop vac use the reverse out and blow out the dust around the transformer. After that you should be ready for some listening.
 
Not surprised to see the Stanton L720 cartridge on the Akai table, either a short money upgrade or thrown in on a promo by the audio shop when the table was bought new. Not TOTL but decent old school Stanton NY catridge. Table/cartridge should perform/sound a lot better than any new entry level table for a starter system.
 
What majick47 said completely. I have that same cart on a Kenwood that is pretty much identical to your own. The sound is surprisingly good.

These two pieces are more than adequate for someone new to the game. Congrats!!
