Undecided: Technics vs Nakamichi/Denon

I have the opportunity to acquire some equipment I have admired for a long time: a Technics SE-A3 Mk 2/SU-A4 preamp/amp combo. I currently have a Nakamichi CA-7 preamp with 2 x Denon POA-6600 monoblocks. I can't have both; which should I choose? I need help!

The Technics is an uncommon and beautiful looking piece. I imagine this level of Technics sounds fantastic as well.

If I had the cash, I'd buy those Denon monoblocks from you as I'm personally a big Denon fan, and tell you go for the Technics that you admire/desire so much. I doubt you'll get another chance at the pair.

However, I just emptied my wallet on some other gear, so no cash left over.

But an excellent AKer I know, Vintage Young'un, is looking for Denon POA-6600s, so if you decide to sell, see him.

not having heard either, but having owned SE-A5 mkII/SU-A6 mkII... them Technics sure are beauts!! :thmbsp:

I owned POA-6600´s as well as POA-4400´s. Both are great, but the bigger and much more powerful 6600´s have it all, power and finesse.

I never heard the Technics being discussed here, though.

Keep what you have and enjoy better than what you will get! IMHO
Regards,
Jim

Those Denon blocks are a dream for me. I would not even think it over for a minute. I know very little about this stuff though...:dunno:

Thanks, all, for you responses. Summing up what you've said leaves me none the wiser, though.:scratch2:

I'm sure you'll agree that I should have both...:D:music::yes:

Now, which should I sell... wife... children...?

The Technics are nice but there's no question in my mind. The Nak/Denon combo wins every time.

Fathers Day is coming up soon, why not make the case for both?:D

Personally, I would stick with the Nak/Denon, but I have more experience with those; I've never owned nor heard the Technics. In general, as nice as they look, I suspect they wouldn't be any better.

Best of all, as has been said, get both (if you can). Live with them for a while, and you can still sell off the one(s) that you like least.

what I would do...

if the sound is similar, I wouldn't hesitate to go for the Technics, soooo much more rare and desireable... doubt they'll ever depreciate!!

Did you ever buy the SU-A4 preamp or can you direct me to the person who was offering it? I have two. Both are down at this time so I'm looking for a third hoping I can make two good ones from the three. Please respond to: interface-stereo at myfairpoint dot net

I have never owned Denon but have never heard anything but good comments as to its quality and sound. I currently am running a Nakamichi rig and have had a CA 7 loaned to me for a 2 yr period of time in the past, which is why I wanted the CA 5 when it was time to give up the loaner to its owner. Great gear. Techics and I go back to 1975, its the 1st system that I paid for and put together on my own and its still playing in my mom's living room ( she stole it ). Great gear also. Either one would not be a bad choice to make. Enjoy!!!:thmbsp::music:
