Some of the cheap plastic Hitachi can be found for cheap and can actually put down some acceptable sound. Both the belt and direct drives. They are really lightweight but I bought one for my office (HT-40 I think) with some advents and I am surprised. I like the HT 353 but they aren’t cheap enough anymore with resurgence of vinyl.
Also as mentioned earlier the cheap JVC s like LF-31 or their belt drives. Not really cheap in early 80s or some of the other models around 1977 78 going for $200 but are really cheap now. The L -F31 41 suffered from the auto start switch being intermittent but a wonderful table once it works.
Onkyo 1030p surprises me even though the auto features are noisy as hell when engaging. Sounds great once arm sets down. Also mentioned I will 2nd is the Sony PS T3 or T2 1 models. Well built, heavy platter, good speed control with the magnetic tape head sensor, decent arm. Can’t complain for $30.
last one I think overall great sound but can be found for cheap are the pioneers PL 4,5,7 Love the arm on them for the acceptance level of playback. I have picked up all of these for cheap like $30-50 usually with a vintage cartridge that I also enjoy.
