understanding the differences

Hello everyone,.

I already posted on the main forum but wanted your advice on Sansui equipment.

So here is the deal, I am considering buying my first ever “nice” audio equipment which, will be (based on everything I have read here) an integrated amplifier.

You should know that I live in southeast asia so the equipment might suffer from heat and moist.

I have been looking around and found the followings:

Sansui AU alpha 907 XR 430 $
Sansui au alpha 907L extra 350 $
Sansui au alpha 607 NRA 350$

I am particularly interested in the differences between 907 XR and 907L extra ?
Which one you would choose (sound is an important factor but not the only one here, potential for internal disaster is also a major issue)
And what price would you pay for it ?
Finally should I be expecting repairs ? (for sure ?)
They all seem in good condition with very good condition connectors and outside (no idea on the inside).
Finally what do you guys think of the speakers B&W CM 2 ?
How much do they usually go for ? how do I assess their condition ?
At the moment I mainly listen to music on my computer (don’t hit me !) so will I be needing anything else to start?
Thanks a lot to everyone.

I can't comment on the difference between those integrateds but if you mainly use your computer as the source I'd recommend a good usb DAC to go along with whatever integrated you choose. I'm currently waiting for a Bitfrost to go along with my BA/CA's for times when vinyl may be inconvenient.

Hey,

Thank you for your advice.
But i am a bit lost here.
Isn't the sound coming from my jack already converted ?
Which budget DAC would you recommend ?

Very few computers/cell phones have a very good dac so even tho the output has been converted it has been so poorly. The quality may be ok for the built in computer speakers but deficiencies will be fairly obvious when played on a good integrated.

Which DAC to choose is another thread all by itself, probably several. I personally chose a Schiit Bitfrost. After some research and as much listening as was possible I found the Bitfrost to be the best performance for the money. My primary source is vinyl, the Bitfrost is for convience when critical listening isn't as important.

This is how I understand it.

Sansui AU alpha 907 XR - 1993

Sansui au alpha 907L extra - 1989

Sansui au alpha 607 NRA - 1997

The 907s should have more power, but all three probably sound similar.

I would get the AU-Alpha 907L Extra. I had a 607 Extra.
