Underwater living

As someone who grew up in Arizona, I can appreciate that it was people from that desert environment who came up with designs for living under water. Water is all you dream about when it's 112 degrees outside and everything is parched. :D

Actually, when he talks about needing NOTHING from the outside world, that's a bit ridiculous. Set-up would requre 100 percent involvement from the outside world, and long-term there would no doubt be various issues that would arise that would likewise require outside involvement. I'd be very surprised if you could have successive generations in such an environment, just from a nutritional standpoint, let alone medical, etc... although it could be self-sustaining for some lengthy periods.

Does anyone remember the previous attempts at having people live in separate environments for extended periods? Not one yet has been successful beyond a few/several months. There is a LOT involved.

I wholly agree that such a relatively closed system would certainly be useful as a research tool for preparation for missions to the moon and Mars, etc... I hope it is at least attempted one day.
