I have a Harman Kardon hk-3485 that recently stopped working (turns on but does not output any sound). I live in a old house with ungrounded (2-prong) outlets. We have ground plug adapters that we put the screw for the outlet cover through to enable the use of 3-prong plugs. I realized that the tab on the ground plug adapter was broken so that the receiver was essentially plugged into an ungrounded outlet. I am wondering what part of the receiver that this likely damaged so that I can attempt to repair it. Any help or advise is greatly appreciated.

it will be 99..9999 percent same damage even if grounded .

It sounds like it is in protection. A number of things can cause this but it is definitely not caused by the 120 volt wall socket unless you had a power surge of some sort. Maybe check for any fuses either on the back or inside in which case you would have to remove the cover to see.
