University Medallion XII info needed

I did some searching around but found little info on these speakers.

Does anybody know about or have experience with the University Medallion XII 3-way speaker sysytem?

Looking for specs and impressions if possible.

First impressions are these will make a great party speaker. They like power.

Looking forward to getting them placed corrrectly and finding the best mated gear for them.

Thanks for that Popular Science link. Veyr interesting info in there. That ad is from '61 so that's a good reference until I decide to pull the drivers out and see the exact date.

I recently acquired a pair that are not as clean as the examples above, but the all important drivers are pristine and sound amazing good! I would have to guess that they're in the mid 90db range and are 8ohm. I drive them with a nice Dynaco ST-70 with ease. I prefer them over my Dynaco A-150's which are basically A-25XL's. The drivers appear to be Altec in design and are similar quality. Mine are from 1961...I would buy another pair in a heartbeat.

I really like these speakers. I acquired a pair of these a while back with a lot of original literature that hasn't been mentioned (oops). They are each comprised of the following:

(1) Model C-12SW 12" Adjustable Response DVC Woofer
Built-in facilities enable high-end adjustment of response to 700, 2500, or 5000 cps, suiting requirements of most tweeters. Crossover points can be changed to achieve best tonal balance. Used with N-1 adjustable high-pass filter in 2-way system, forms a complete L/C network. 1.5 lb supersensitive all-Alnico 5 Gold Dot magnet. Response from 30 to 6000 cps. 30 watts rating. 8 ohms. 6 7/8" deep. Shipping weight 7.25 lbs.

(1) C-8 M Mid-Range
Response of 500-5,000 cps deliberately restricted to vital mid-range frequencies by means of viscous-treated surround and center. Fully enclosed basket eliminates need for additional sub-enclosure. Power rating: 50 watts. Depth 4 1/4". Shipping weight 3lbs.

(1) Sphericon Super Tweeter Model T202
Offers the most phenomenal high frequency response ever achieved (by 1962) from 3,000 cps to 40,000 cps (+- 2db to 22,000 cps) with amazing clarity, transparency and sweetness. The entirely new (1962) concept of this radiator tweeter, with its special domed phenolic diaphragm and spherical diffractor, results in a virtually linear response- with true musical quality-far superior to even the most expensive tweeters (in 1962). Dual voice coil woofers? What's up with that? How are they using the second coil? I'm really impressed with those tweeter specs.
 
I picked up a set at Goodwill for $20 and I love them! Beautiful sounding speakers, especially paired with my Yamaha CA-600 :)

Walked out of my local Deseret Industries with a pair for $8 total. Tomorrow I'll fire them up and see if everything is in working order. One woofer has a dented dome but I can pull that out pretty easily. Has anybody ever recapped a pair of these?
 
There have been several folks on here that have recapped them. If you search there are pictures and cap values posted. The shop I use recapped mine while replacing a blown tweeter. Very pleasant sounding speakers.
