Unknown ElectroVoice cabinets

Hey all, i picked up some EV floor speakers this morning. They look to be the same driver compliment as Esquires but maybe in a larger cabinet. Anybody here know a model for these? They are pretty large, at 30" x 18" x 21". They say Low Resonance Ultra Compact System on the crossovers like many smaller EV bookshelves... Just not as compact!image.jpegimage.jpegimage.jpeg

I don't know which model those are, but, boy! What a nice find! I simply must ask how they sound in comparison to newer designs?

Is that oxidation on the L-pads?

They sound very nice, albeit i auditioned them on the sellers' A/V receiver. He did not like them, he likes Cerwin Vega! Speakers. To each his own. I don't think he ever heard them anyway, i had to work the L-pads to get the horns and the other unknown drivers image.jpeg image.jpeg in the sealed box to come on and play well. So i'm sure a good cleaning is necessary as well as a re-cap. I think my tube amps are gonna love these!
Here is a pic of the poison removed from the pots, and an exterior view of the unopened cabs' exterior crossover plate.

About that oxidation on the L-pads; keep in mind that most of the plating from that era was cadmium, which is toxic when ingested or inhaled. So in other words, don't breath or eat the dust if you decide to clean them:)

Hey Arts, i'm guessing we we're typing and thinking the same thing at the same time! Lol, now for the bad....i used a little brush and my shop-vac to suck up the cadmium oxide. Then i went to clean out my filter outside the garage into a bag, and, i found the filter was loose! Well, i'm sure i caught a little "wiff" of nice cadmium dust blowing around my garage!

Oh poop..... Do you feel a second head growing?Have any limbs fallen off?Are you hearing colours?

Seriously though, giggles aside,I'm sure your exposure was very limited,if any at all.Not something we want to do every day of the week, but at this level nothing to be concerned about.Ain't it always the way? You take all of the appropriate precautions, but something always goes wrong anyways.

Those cardboard-covered cans with the riveted aluminum strap remind me of what was used in ac/dc radios. Is the oval guy under the black clamp a paper?

I love that crossover: Ultra Compact System!?!? Maybe then, not so much now.....

I am craving beer! Lots of beer! Must be the antidote!
I think the oval is a PIO cap, ultra compact? My ASS! Lol....i had to figure out how to stuff these things into my newer Buick Regal. I did it, somehow, in the backseat. The seller helped manuever them around, spin them sideways after inside to load both. When home, i had to unload them solo....not big fun! But i did it very carefully
