Unknown Tannoy Speakers

hi guys i recently bought these speakers they came out of tannoy eaton boxes and im trying to find some info out with them.

they was made by a tannoy engineer back in the 1970s i cant find any info anywhere the magnets are from bass radiators that are not dual concentric and the front looks weird theres like a double front on them, any info would be greatly appreciated, they sound really good though and the crossovers are eaton crossovers, thanks guys

those look like they are drivers from Eatons - that's what the crossover says. They certainly look dual concentric. You have the basis for a pretty fine pair of speaker there.

I now see that what you were asking is different from what I answered. Crossovers from Eatons, but drivers not necessarily so, in fact the wear on the decal suggets something older. Since they have a double basket front and were described as 'made by a Tannoy engineer', you probably have a unique experimental driver, possibly one designed to have move excursion than standard Tannoys. You say they sound real good - what kind of enclosure are they in?

hi there actually not in any enclosure at the moment but listening to them now and they sound very clear and detailed, ive been looking on the web and found the exact same basket from a tannoy red but doesnt have double basket front

It looks from the picture like the basket front from one basket was attached to the front of another (there are a lot of unusual screw holes), and the suspension attached to the front one. That would require some sort of extension on the voice coil former, and probably a more flexible spider, but the idea might have been a high compliance/long throw woofer. It is possible that Tannoy actually put this into production for the 70s speakers like the Eaton that had smaller enclosures than the older classic models, and that your pair was an experimental version meant to test the concept.
