Unusual Turntable Mat

Does anyone know anything about this mat I came across. It was on a Turntable I bought but it’s not the original mat that came with it. Some type of special mat. It says “Tri Pad EON R&D Corp. Canada” around the inner ring. I attached a couple pictures, since everyone likes pictures. It looks like the bottom is a spongy material, then a hard plastic, maybe Delrin, and then a cork & rubber composition. Anyone have any background on it, please let me know.

Made in Vancouver , Canada . The Gents name was Brian or Bryan Thurston if I recall correctly . From mid 80's
