The question is if he was informing the source, the impact regarding quality it would have been the same, probably no.
If its sound good who cares the source. Now from collecting point of view or analog puritans could be an issue.
“I dont know I dont care” sometimes is better ti enjoy what we have in the way we have and put a framework to our requirement otherwise never will be enough.

For some it’s a problem like you said a collector etc but for many of it sounds good it’s just fine. Like I said for me it’s not an issue as I’m not a collector I like to listen to my music so if it’s a digital copy analog etc if it sounds good then I’m good with it. If you want to hear some really good analog cuts get some of MA Recordings vinyl they are exceptional and imo some of the best digital vinyl comes from MOV (Music On Vinyl).

I think best that they be outright with their process, if they are using digital in the process they should state it on every recording. To do otherwise is a bad business practice, even if it does sound great be honest. I think the industry associations should have a standard like where they use the AAA or ADA, or DDD if that is what you used. Consumers should have the right to know.

I agree with this. I don’t mind if it’s digital but at least tell us if it is or not.

Would everyone be cool with horse or dog meat in the dinner as not to be required to tell the consumers. Hey as long as it tasted great what difference does it make, to me I want to know and when your paying premium prices to boot.

I am not justifying anything, but sometimes the perception change on the consumer regarding those little details. Even the recording is great and clean with excellent dynamics, it will not have the same reception than a AAA recording.(our paradigms)
Made in USA with foreign part, made in China! but sound attractive for the consumer, Assemble in America, same. Made in EU good knows which press plant. sometime is easier to say sorry than ask for permission.
bottom line, the decision to buy or not is on our hands. Get well educated about the product we want to buy before buying it is on us.

Well I will say that when I buy one steps and I know what the process is supposed to be with them and if I find out they were sourced from a digital copy when claimed it’s from the original analog tape for as much money I spend on them I would be disappointed and question the integrity of that company.

Same. Thought this was always the case with the silver label pressings?

jeff
It’s not confirmed that all silver labels MoFi pressings are from a digital source but they could be. The argument though is that the MoFi One Steps and other MoFi records are from a digital source as well and Mofi had not been upfront about this.

Exactly, now if they make an analog tape copy of the original master and use that for the one step Id be a little less upset. But the In the groove owner makes good point about lables not wanting pressers to make thousands of copy from the one tape and degrade to a point its now useless .

That’s what I was thinking also when he said that and the big one coming up is Michael Jackson’s Thriller One step and they’re saying they’re making 40k pressings! That’s a lot so makes
You think for sure.

I thought the digital sourced vinyl was under the Silver Label. I just got the Electric Light Orchestra - Eldorado album and it clearly kicks ass. If they are all digital and sound like this one, then I don't care. Now they need to do Fire on High.

Yes I understand that this could be a contentious issue, given what these releases cost, and that many desire an all analog product. No skin in the game for me, as I won't be buying any of these.

jeff
Why? Digital or not the person in the video claims on many of his MoFi’s the sound quality surpasses every other copy by leaps and bounds.

Yeah I ordered a copy myself. We'll see how it sounds .

It never says anything about “all digital”. Unless I’m mistaken you can start with the original tapes but if you digitally fix something, you can’t call it all analog. If they’re cleaning up things through a digital process for better SQ, I’m completely fine with that.
