Welcome Leongkeat :)

Considering your location in Malaysia I have a feeling the choices on vintage Mcintosh equipment is limited.

I would upgrade the preamp first.

General preamp recommendations are newer is generally better. Preamp technology and in particular volume controls have had great improvements over the years. Any of the new McIntosh preamps are great. If you have an all digital system the MDA1000 is the way to go. If money is more of an issue the slimline preamps are usually under priced: C504, C710, C712 and C15. I'm also a big fan of the C42, it is fantastic.

A little more info would help, what are you using for sources and what is your budget?

Welcome!

By Malaysia JB, do you mean Johor Baru? If so, you should go and meet Jerry since he is so close!

I agree with Victor, but would be nice to know your source. :music:

Also, is there much used mc gear over there??

Ok, OK, I chip in here since howie so give face and bring up my name. Like that, cannot dont respond.

1. Used McIntosh gears are hard to come by in Singapore - not the good ones.

2. Like Vic said, if all digital, the MDA1000 is the best one can get - for ANY price - bar none. Of course, there will be difference in opinion. You choose.

3. If matching period, then the vintage gears will be good. Look up AUDIO CLASSICS or DeWitt and you will find some very matching preamps. Price is also right, given the condition they are in. Voltage can also be converted.

To me, point "3" is the most cost effective cause you get GOOD LOOKING and GREAT WORKING condition matching period gears to the MC2300 and not having to fork out too much.

Cheers.

Period close preamp for a 2300 would be a C32 or C33, My MC2300 matches perfectly with my C32, unbelivable sound for mid 70's gear. Speakers are a bit harder mach to the 2300 since you have a rated 300W, when in good condition a strong 375 to 400W actual and an easy 600 peak power, whatever you get make sure it can take the watts.....

Nice to know u all. I am live in Johor Bahru (JB). My budget to buy preamp is around RM4000 and RM2000 to upgrade a better power cable for my mcintosh MC2300 power amp.

So any better power cable for mcintosh MC2300 to intro to me ?

I have few probelm of my mcintosh MC2300. Kindy pls help to provide solution, step and circuit diagram:

1) Right channel sound is lound then left channel about 10% (after change speaker, speaker cable, rca cable,cd player, exchange cable in left, right speaker, connect amp direct to cd player)

2)My Mcintosh MC2300 amp left right channel is wrong. Now left channel sound become right (left =right) and right channel sound become left (right = left). I already check connection (RCA, speaker cable left, right) from my cd player, amp, pre amp found my connection is correct.

Just to help the others, I believe 1000 Malaysian Ringit is about US$286 so your pre-amp budget is US$1100 and power cable budget is US$500.

To me that sounds like a lot you are spending on your cable compared to your pre-amp?:scratch2:

Hi LeongKeat,

There are many kinds/brands of power cables in the market. if you limit yourself to say US$300, there are a lot of good ones to be gotten. Like Cardas, Shunyata, Crystal, etc, ..... bound to have something that fit your needs.

As for US$1500 - US$2000, you can get a MINT condition C33 from DeWitt, who I think should be able to convert to 240v. You should try contacting them. Its a good match for your MC2300 as its from the same period. Think Terry had also advised the same.

As for the channel issues, I am not technically inclined to answer that. Sorry.

Cheers

Hi LeongKeat,

If you are looking for USED McIntosh preamps, I really dont know who to introduce as these seldom surfaces in the market. Those that are good are snapped even before they appear.

Like I said, you should contact DeWitt or Audio Classics for the C33 pre.

As for cables, well, go down to The Adelphi, walk around. The shops there are relatively friendly. The brands I highlited are all there.

Happy hunting.
