Upgrade cartridge and stylus

Looking to upgrade to an audio technical VM95EN from a Shure M91E hi track and Shure v15 II on a Kenwood KD 5077 and Kenwood kd3055 respectively... Is this an upgrade? Anyone have experience with these? Thanks

The VM95EN I bought for my pioneer pl-510 sounds very nice..but a shure V15 II with a Jico stylus would be in the same ball park..maybe even better

What about the Sumiko Rainer with either of these turntables?
Sumiko is an Excel corporation engine, the LP gear Vessel is the same engine as the Amethyst ( lower output) but the LP gear carts are way way cheaper.
You can get a vivid line( shibata) LP gear for way less than a Rainier and it has the better engine too.

I wouldn't say the Shure V15 type II is necessarily better than the AT VM95EN. The V15 type II is essentially an M75 in a fancy dress, not as special as the later versions in the V15 line. Shure M91 shares the same engine. The AT VM95EN will mostly be a sideways step from either of the Shure cartridges, with a different character. Soundstage should be a little wider, tonal colour more neutral than the Shures. I have no experience with the Sumiko Rainier but I doubt it would be better than either the AT VM95EN or the Shures.

Yes, I have considered it, but the price is a little high.
I like having a modern cart with original styluses available..you could start with the VM95C or VM95E and move up the stylus chain when funds allow..
Just don't drop down to the at-3600, worst cart I've ever tried

unfortunately a person usually gets a step up in performance when they spend more for a cart. Just be careful since its easy to take a sideways step or backwards step when spending similar money on the budget carts. Would suggest you save up for the more expensive cart or keep your current Shure V 15 II cart and look for a better phono stage. You may be surprised how good the Shure can sound with a better performing phono preamp. There are tons and tons of phono stages from China out there. Some are excellent for the money.

Does anyone remember the late 70's audio technical precept pc440? With the beryllium cantilever? Is that in the same class as the others mentioned above? I would be happy with that performance...
