upgrade for KEF C30 crossovers.

Hello everybody!

I have a pair of C30 england made Speakers. they sound nice but i think they can sound better, i´ve heard about crossovers can be upgraded or at least they can be restored due the age of capacitors. I´ve been trying to find the diagram, but it has been impossible for me to get it, if anyone of you know what kind and the values of the capacitors must be, i will be grateful to you.



note 1: also will be apreciatte if someone know what material can be used to rebuild the grill, the black mesh has scrapings and i have no idea what material i could use to replace them.

note 2: what about the ferrofluid?

im sure someone more familiar with the speakers can help with a schematic, but the easiest way for you to see whats in the x-over is to pull the woofer or the back speaker wire terminal plate & have a look at the crossover/capacitors. the caps should have their value printed on them. then all you do is decide what brand caps you want & order the same values or as close to as possible. they are probably cheap canister type electrolytic caps & the mid/tweeter or smaller value caps should be replaced with a better quality poly cap. entry level priced are usually a few bucks a piece, or you can spend $10-$20 a piece on mid level caps but i doubt these speakers need that level of cap. i would think a dayton cap or solen from parts express or other places would be fine, & they are much better quality than the originals & new!

for the speaker grille material, i doubt you will find an exact match but could make due with new grille material from parts express or simply speakers, both places sell all kinds of audio stuff.

the ferrofluid in the tweets should be fine, never really seen that dry up in decent condition speakers. but i think they sell it new just be carefull since you will have to take the tweeter apart to expose the fluid, & dont over fill the groove. if the tweets work i'd assume they are fine.

The C series in those days was a lower "price point" affair, they were not bad but they do not have a huge amount of potential. Have fun if you want but don't put too much into them expecting great results. The drivers and cabinets were much cheaper than the Reference series we sold alongside so upgrading the rest will only get you so far.
