upgrade recommendations

Greetings, I’m new to the forum. I’m trying to get the most out of my vinyl-what upgrade recommendations would you make for the following set up:

Pro-ject Debut III
Pro-ject Acrylic platter
Speedbox
Ortofon Stylus 30
Harman Kardon hk3490 receiver
Energy EF-500 Tower Speakers
Rek-o-kut clamp

As far as budget is concerned, i'm looking for "most bang for your buck" upgrades (mid-range products).

G'day all, yes I agree with Hoffius. A good external phono stage will significantly improve things. :yes: Regards, Felix aka catman.
 
You could always check out something like the Pro-Ject Tube Box, but if I were in your position I'd probably be thinking speakers.
 
There are many nice units available. I use a Channel Islands Audio phono pre and have been pretty happy with it. Lots of folks like the Cambridge Audio phono pre. Graham Slee, Rega, Simm Audio, lots of choices. What is your budget?
 
Right now my budget is around $300 but if it makes more sense to save a little more money, I'm willing to do that. Same goes for speakers.
 
There are some decent phono preamps at only $200 or so, and $300 could get you something pretty good on the used market, but putting that $300 toward an eventual speaker upgrade seems to me like the best use of your budget. If you can, try to audition a pair of small $1k speakers some time...just to see if you feel the same.
 
What is it that you don't like about you system now? It is best to qualify that first instead of throwing money at your system trying to improve it. GOD knows I have done plenty of that myself. Just trying to save you some grief and money here.....
 
Build or buy an RCM. I think you've got a pretty nice setup as is. Another option would be to spend that $300 on room treatments.
 
Recently picked up a Project Tube Box II. Excellent bang for the buck for around $450. Works well w/my 26yr old Linn and Arc SP-16.:music:
 
I'd look at adding a decent used sub, I don't think those speakers will fill in the lows very favorably.

I have seen $1200+ subs from reputable manufacturers like B&W go for less than $300 on CL.
