Upgrade saga continues --> Polk SDA SRS 3.1TL

Mystery

constantly upgrading...
Polk speakers can't leave me alone. :D
From Polk monitor 4,5,7,s4,s8 to RTA-8TL,RTA-12C,SDA-CRS+ to SDA-2B, I still have most of them.
To top that, I added a pair of Polk SDA SRS 3.1TL's today.
This is not a scroe at close to three Benjamins without IC cable, but these will be upgrade to my 2B's nevertheless.
Plus I don't have to keep looking for 2.3TL or 1.2TL as they are meant for huge rooms that I don't have and won't have soon.

I know they are very well reviewed but would be fun to hear experiences. :thmbsp:

Still in my car.
Few pics from original ad below.

Nice speakers. Im waiting on a driver to replace the frozen one in my monitor 7b. I would love to find a pair of SDA around here

Wow, so you bought these. Cool! I saw the ad too, but I'm afraid of the adverse effects of having bad GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome!!!! :yikes:

Awesome score!

Yes got them today.
I'm not afraid of bad GAS, my case is already too severe past any syndrome. :yikes:

Why not hold out till you find the big guys (1.2s or SRS's)? You know you'll always wonder how much better the totl sda's could sound once you've been bitten by the sda bug. In my case 3 pair of polks left here last year once I acquired my tl's.

By the looks of your sig you've totl polk money there and a good start on a dedicated addition to listen to them in. Just a thought from someone who also used to be overrun with speakers.

Yes I know about them and money is not the main issue, they need a huge room for proper setup that I don't have and won't have soon.
For my current room size, even 3.1TL barely work.

Will clean them up and post more pics.
Need to move the 2B's first from living room. :scratch2:

You'd be amazed at how small a room you can make those big guys work in. I thought mine was too small to so I started moving all the excess gear out. Now I've got them sounding fantastic. The fellow that I got them from had them in even a smaller room than I have and they sounded great because they were set up properly. As I'm sure you know it's all about breathing room and proper set up for them moreso than any other type of speaker.

Good luck to you in your quest and have fun with your newest toys.

That's a fair price considering all the work and upgrades that have gone into them. Some polkies also consider them to be the best sounding of bigger sda's.

Nice!!! I see that if it says Polk in the ad, they would be gone before I could respond ;)

Yes. They look nice.

Haha... if you are interested, we can talk.
I'll be passing on few other Polks as I can't fit all of them in my small room.

Here is update:
Brought them in last night and my back is sore now.
Wife helped out but just as a support.
I'm getting old for heavy speakers.

Physical Condition:
Minor scuffs and scratches but nothing major.
There is one few inches long small crack on top plate of right speaker.
Grills are very good besides minor holes/fraying etc.
Side panels and back cabinets are very good.
Front baffle is almost perfect.
On the left speaker, there is some kind of glue residue around the dimensional driver and some of that glue is also on the surrounds of that driver.
There is no rip or tear on the driver though.
Right PR has small crease on it.

On all drivers' surrounds including PR, there is rusty colored dust layer as seen on the pictures.
Also, that rusty color rings are on the grill cloth from the surrounds touching the grill cloth.
I saw that in my Monitor 7's as well.
Not sure how that rust colored dust gets there but it wipes out clean.
May be it's due to being unused for a while. SDA-2B didn't have that.

It's not as bad as it looks here.
Camera flash really reflects the glue residue.
From few feet away, it's not noticeable.

Small crack on one side of top plate.

They look pretty good after wiping the dust/rust.

Briefly turned them on this morning and noticed these are more efficient than 2B's.
At the same volume, these are noticeably louder than 2B's.
Also, these have smoother/more midrange and more heavy/solid sound.
2B's sound little lighter and thinner but brighter.
Didn't notice much difference in bass but I only listened at low/moderate volume.
I know it's very crappy testing and setup but I was expecting night and day from 2B's but hopefully proper setup/power will bring more sizzles.

My living room is now crammed.
I have my work cutout for this weekend moving speakers around.
These didn't come with IC cable so I'm using IC cable from CRS+ for now.

The picture below has SDA-2B and SDA-CRS+ along with the 3.1TL's.

I remember just not to long ago when you only had 1 pair of speakers and a mad neighbor.

Now you have about as many speakers as I do, and I have a house!!:D

Congrats S!!
