Upgrading system advice needed

My guess the self diagnostic feature unique to only 4 McIntosh products plays some role in bolstering MC2255 values, which is both metered and the more powerful model of this grouping. That plus being direct match to the popular C29/30/32/33/34 series preamplifiers might also play some part as well.

My dear friend @damacman will say MC7270 or (possibly MC7300) but my vote would go to the MC2205 which is the (period correct) ideal compliment to the C32. Second to that, I would go with MC2255 which is slightly more refined but still a good match to the C32.

Recently a new ribbon cable kit has been manufactured for the C32 and I believe it has received McIntosh's stamp of approval, so the issue is relative. Installing it however is not a job for the amateur unfortunately but once done, it should never be an issue again.

The C32 was a significant new product at the time of its introduction in 1977 and is still a highly regarded preamplifier.

Congratulations and enjoy. :music:

Thanks to everyone who shared their opinions! I'm leaning more towards the MC2205 since it's the period correct amplifier to the C32. Plus, I've heard a 2205 and thought it is a wonderful sounding piece. I've never heard the MC7270, but I would imagine it's more of the same, just a newer model with better specs. The only thing I don't care for, and this is petty, is the aluminum bottom portion of the MC7270. Looks like I'll be keeping an eye out for a pristine MC2205. Thanks again everyone!

You wont regret the C32/MC2205 combo, its a strong setup....I run a C33 and 2205, and I love it....some day soon I'll get around to restoring both units, they are mostly unrestored and are still providing reliable high end audio!!

Thanks Kev! I'm looking forward to it...already started my search.

My friend Mike says the best audio he's heard to date was a C32/MC2205/K-horns ... and he's been in the hobby since the early 1970s.

Wow, that is some pretty high praise. I'm very pleased to hear that! May have to look into K-horns after the MC2205 purchase.
