Urgent: Turntable Setup Help!

I have two Technics SL-D2 turntables. I also have two Technics SB-CR55 speakers on the way. I would like to know if those turntables and speakers are compatible. I would also like to know if I need a receiver and mixer, if so what model? Thanks!

Yes those will work together, with a receiver or amplifier in between and as long as that has a Phono input you should be fine. To say "what model" is impossible; there are literally hundreds if not thousands of possibilities.

A mixer would help you use both turntables with your system. Those are not exactly DJ turntables but you could have fun with them. The mixer will often have the Phono part taken care of and if so the amp won't need it. The mixer would connect to a Tape, Aux or CD input.
 
Thank you Montycat. What if I want to hook up two turntables to one receiver then hook the receiver up to the speakers? How can that be achieved.
 
With wires...

Most receivers don't have 2 phono inputs. If it did you would use a switch on the front panel to choose one or the other. With a mixer you can either switch from one to the other or crossfade or mix the 2 turntable sources.

There are a few receivers that do have 2 Phono inputs that would work. I have a Sansui AU999 integrated amp that has Phono 1&2 for example. You will just have to find either a receiver, integrated amplifier or a mixer that has 2 Phono's but with a mixer you might also need an amplifier. (unless you get a powered mixer)
You could also get a receiver that has a Phono Input and then buy an outboard Phono preamp and hook the other table up to that, then to maybe the Tape or Aux input.:dunno:

Suggest you do some detailed research on how audio components work together before you bust out the wallet and start buying stuff. Check the net for buying guides to audio. I have more than a few from the likes of Pioneer etc..
 
Well, he's already bought the stuff......

Don't put the turntables on the speakers.
Keep the turntables away from the receiver.
What kind of cartridge will you end up with?

You can buy a receiver with two phono inputs. If you end up with a receiver with only one phono input, then you can buy an external phono preamp, and connect the second turntable to the AUX input of the receiver using the external preamp.

OP might want to check into the AK Solid State section and ask the advice of members re a receiver that would get the best out of the speakers you already have, it isn't a case of one size fits all speakers.

He can certainly go this way but a downside could be volume of the on-board phono stage not matching the other separate preamp, requiring adjustment frequently. Having 2 identical tables might make the mixer more practical and fun to use.
