Use a different tweeter in the left speaker then the right one

Hi!

I have the Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) 805D2 with a expensive diamond tweeters.
One tweeter is broken, from the left speaker.

Now I know the B&W CM10 tweeter will fit in the 805D2.
But does it matter that I use a CM10 tweeter in the left speaker and the 800D2 diamond tweeter in the right speaker?
I know the CM10 tweeter can't go that high, but we humans can't even hear it(I heard).

I will use a CM10 tweeter for a few months until I have money to bring it back to original tho.
I'm a broke ass student with a expensive hobby.

What brand of speakers are they? you do not mention that in this thread or the other you created a couple of days ago.

The reason I ask is clarity will help you so that people will know what speakers you're talking about thus probably more replies.

Oops, sorry!
They are Bowers & Wilkins 805D2
And the tweeter I wanna use is from the Bowers & Wilkins CM10(s1/s2)

True, but are they so different?
The dome is the same shape and it's the same brand.
Only difference is scientific diamond and aluminium.

But it's just a tweeter i will use for a few months until i can afford a diamond tweeter.

Would the difference be that big?

You may not even notice with some songs unless your really listening and on other music it may be obvious. You may notice a shift in soundstage if one tweeter is more efficient than the other. If your willing to live with a slight difference in sound signature between the two tweeters then buy it and save for the proper tweeter down the road. It's not going to sound identical. It will certainly be better than listening to them with one dead tweeter.
 
I had some of those C75 UniQ KEF speakers with the absolutely delicate tweeters. One blew, and all I could find was the ones from the C55, if memory serves.

It just didn't work, and I sold them to a guy who was tickled to get them.

I say wait for the right thing, and save your money.
 
Your dealer is correct that tweeters (or any drivers) should be replaced in pairs. Can't afford two new diamond tweeters? That's perfectly understandable. Genuine B&W drivers will be expensive, diamond or not. Maybe a pair of regular diaphragm tweeters will be functional, hopefully without a crossover modification.

But a regular diaphragm tweeter wont fit the housing.
The CM10 tweeter will fit the housing and they use the same crossover for the tweeter part.

Buy the CM10 tweeter and try it, its the only way to know. After all its only temporary.

This is a classic case of someone disregarding some expert advice, searching for someone to agree with what they want to do.

I don't mean to be rude, but you need to wait, and buy the right thing. There are much greater minds than my own, with decades of experience, who have very gently tried to steer you towards being patient, and doing this right.

Ultimately, do what you want, and I do hope it works, but I have my doubts.
