Use of the Extension Adaptor on Sony Str-6800

For those of you that have the str-6800, what is the extension adaptor used for? I would like to test out this adcom gfa-535 amp, and the only thing I might be able to use as a preamp is the pre section of 6800. Will this extension adaptor accommodate me? There are inputs in the back for it: in and out.

I'm 14 years late responding to this, but I use the extension adapter for my Sonos Port to allow for multiroom listening of my vinyl, or streaming to my analogue room from the Sonos app.
