hi, i know very little about Mc except they are among the best made...there is a used MA 7000 availabale for about half the new price at a local reliable audio dealer...i have read something about phono inputs and lack therof...i have a B&O TT RX 2 I inherited...if i hocked my family and pet and got the MA 7000 would i be able to just hook up the TT without trouble to play it and another dumb newbie ??... does the MA7000 allow for additional speakers other than the first pair...I didnt really examine the unit....thanks for the rather inane questions....Joe

i wish, the guy wants almost twice that much and although i do have an MM cartridge i can see now he is asking alot however reputable he is....i am surprised it only has connections for one set of speakers...i was hoping to add a Mc tuner later but not sure i can do thsat although the ma 6600 can so i assume this one can....thanks
Are you certain that the MA7000 can take the tuner module like the MA6600? Even if it can, it is more fun to have one of McIntosh's fine, stand-alone tuners hooked into things. Can never have too much Mc.
You could parallel speakers from the terminals. For instance, you could run two pairs of 8 ohm speakers from the 4 ohm taps. The drawback is that you would have to have them all running at the same time. And, if they were not identical speakers the more efficient would play louder than the less efficient set. Most modern high-end gear no longer offers outputs for driving more than one set of speakers like in the days of yore.
I definitely vote for the MA7000 and separate tuner. That way you can try the MR65B, MR67, MR71, MR73, MR74, MR75, MR77, MR78 and MR80 and let us know which you prefer.

The MA7000 retails new for $8,000. It will accept separate FM tuner (not T2 module like the MA6600) and MM phono. If you are really interested in buying a MA7000 the McIntosh website has all the information you need to know.
thanks everyone...actually went to the Mc site but the finer details and opinions are better expressed here..They show specs and photos but i learned about the hooking up tuners and 2 sets of spkrs from you guys/gals...the site shows stats and numbers this site teaches me all the other good stuff i need to know....thanks again....i am now torn between getting a tuner for rhe ma7000 if i get it or waiting and getting the 6600 and adding the hd tuner add on....either one has more than enough power only the 6600 i would wait and get new....boy is that stuff great and expensive...i have advised my family to be packed and ready to go in case i order one they would have to move...darn shame but good audio equipment has its priorities No????

If your experience is anything like mine, you will love the MA7000. It is tremendous sounding and built like a tank. I have owned LOTS of high-end audio gear in the past, and my current set-up, although less expensive than some, is by far the best.

If you are interested, you can run two sets of speakers with a autoformer amplifier like the MA7000. You will need a speaker switching device made by Niles. They make a unit designed for autoformer amplifiers, ~ $600-700. Only shortfall is you can only use 14AWG speaker wire which is no problem for relatively short runs.
