Heya, on facebook marketplace theres a used/like new sl-2000 for sale for 225 CAD (170 USD). I plan on changing the stylus and cartridge to a Nagaoka MP-110. I am also upgrading from an LP60X so any turntable suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The Technics would be a definite upgrade. If it's really like new, it's worth the cost. It's a solid deck, with a decent arm. I have the same arm on my pre-Mk2 SL-1800, with an Ortofon Quintet Bronze LOMC. You could do a lot worse for the money. I'm biased, obviously, but if everything works, I'd jump on it.

Yes, that's a fair price for a decent turntable. I worked on one recently and liked it. It's not on par with the 1200 through 1800 series but pretty good.

And welcome to AK!

I read this comment and checked marketplace again, there is an sl-1300 used/like new for sale at 400 CAD that comes with an Empire 2000 E/III cartridge that is said to be in a great condition. I talked to the seller and hes willing to sell it to me for 360, you said the sl 2000 is not on par with the 1200-1800 so would the price jump for the 1300 be worth it?

I like the 1300 but it's barely better speced, if at all, especially if it is the first version. The MK2 (controls outside of the lid) is better again but would you really appreciate the difference? I'd personally go with condition and your gut feeling with the seller.

And, by the way, I am going to move this thread to Dollars and Sense. ;)

I have both an SL1300 and an SL1900 , which is the full auto version of the SL2000. The 1300 is a massive upgrade in terms of build quality, and that cartridge is excellent, and not too hard to find either genuine replacements or more affordable aftermarket stylii. For the difference in price, it's an easy choice, but check the condition carefully. The big drawback of the 1300 is getting good service work done, the price can really get away from you.
