using a passive and active sub with the AVR sub setting on OFF

unning a 12" passive sub from my AVR to the sub then out to the main L/R. Have the AVR sub setting on OFF. Adding a 6" active sub. If I connect through the LFE will it work since the AVR sub setting is OFF? How should I wire the active sub....I want to be able to use the crossover and phase, etc. on the back of the active sub and not go through the AVR bass management options. Should I connect the active sub to the front L/R B
and run both A/B on the receiver? Should I use an unassigned/available surround? If I use the LFE and set the AVR to sub ON then how should I set up the passive sub.....I want to use both the active and passive sub.
If I use an old Kenwood stereo amp to power the passive, how will the music get from the AVR to the passive sub?

AVR's are all different. There is no option, but to read the manual for yours.

For example, on some AVR's when you have selected OFF for the sub out, the AVR sends a full signal to the front left and right speakers. Then if you select ON, the lowest frequencies are stripped from the front mains and routed out the sub output jacks. Notice the stripping these low frequencies would render your passive sub essentially useless.

Since you have two subs, one active and one passive, you might consider routing the B speaker left channel to one sub and the right channel to the other. You would use the volume control on the active sub to balance sound and naturally you'd position the subs adjacent to their respective front speakers.

You didn't say whether your passive sub has a built-in low pass filter, but I just assume that it does.
