Using LED's to light an acrylic platter

This might seem cheesy but somewhere I saw a photo of the acrylic platter on a turntable that was lit from underneath with a led. It makes the platter glow and in my opinion looks pretty sweet. Also, the platter on the new McIntosh table has the trademark blue glow going on.

Has anyone here done that? Seems like it could be an easy DIY, but would the components add any noise to the system?
