Using Step Up Transformer

Does anyone have any experience using one of these with European model equipment? Not sure if the receiver in question, Sony STR-DB930 QS has different taps on the transformer I could change then install a 120 volt plug. It is available for a very reasonable price locally. I have read good things about this receiver for two channel stereo.
Would the transformer affect sound quality etc. I would think there would be,maybe I am wrong. Providing there is a Hz switch on the back that can be set to 60 maybe it is not an issue.

Any advise you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Looking at pictures of the unit on the interweb, you can see that the input frequency listed as 50/60 so using a transformer that can handle the full electrical requirements of the amp will be fine. Verify the input frequency to be sure and use a transformer that has more capability than the full input wattage of the receiver at the correct voltage.

Thanks Blue, thought that was a Hz selector in one of those pics but I did not have my magnifiers with me (damn older eyes) just curious if other people are using any European equipment here in North America? Good advise on the wattage of the transformer being higher than the unit itself.

I'm using a few pieces of hifi (Yamaha DSP-AX620, Sony integrated) with a 110V to 240V step up, as I brought the gear with me from England. Works fine. Bought two x 500W stepups when I arrived in the USA.

Obviously gear that needs the correct frequency (Ac sync motor turntables etc) won't work correctly. Any equipment that basically takes AC input and rectifies it to DC internally should be fine.

As noted above, make sure the power handling of your step up is above the power consumption of your equipment.
