Utah Celesta C12PC-3C speaker crossover question from 1st time poster.

Just joined this awesome info gathering and dispensing website! I have a question for you audiophiles with WAY more knowledge than I. I was gifted a pair of vintage DIY speakers and opened the boxes to find 12", 3-way Celesta speakers by Utah paired with a 5" Lafayette, (I'm guessing), mid-range speaker. I see no crossovers in the boxes. The leads to the 5" speakers come straight off of the 12" speaker terminals. Do I need crossovers to do this right and, if so, please recommend a product I can grab. I can solder and do a bit of repairs as I learn them on YouTube. I do have a vintage tube amp to drive them. Thank you!

If the Celesta are true three ways, with different coaxial drivers rather than a mechanical three way with whizzers or compliant sections of the cone, there will be some sort of crossover under that magnet cover. The wires coming out of the cover suggest the former. I have no idea how you would access such a crossover - normal round magnet covers almost always just twist off if they aren't held on by a bolt. Maybe this one does too, though I worry about what might happen to the wires.

The Celesta is a pseudo three way, with a whizzer handling the midrange. There's a capacitor on the back of the tweeter, it's hidden by the whizzer cone, though. That cover is part of the frame, the magnet is attached underneath.

This is great info for a newbie. Now I know I don't have to fool with these old gems. They are in excellent condition, so, following the advice given, I will build new boxes, fully enclosed and insulated for only the Celesta's and use the 5's in some vintage boxes I already have. Thank you!
