V15 VMR stylus force question

Hello all - I recently bought an AR the Turntable from a fellow AK'er with a V15 VMR cart already installed. Part of the deal was an NOS VMR stylus. I'm trying to dial in all the adjustments now and I'm obviously a little math challenged because I can't seem to figure out what the stylus force should be if I plan to use the dynamic stabilizer brush. I'm using the Shure force gauge. The manual says:

"Set tracking force for 1.5 grams total. Dynamic stabilizer exerts .5 grams force on record which will not appear at the tip. Tip tracking force will be 1.0 gram when Stabilizer rests on record."

So... provided that I do the calibration with the stabilizer up... what should I set the force gauge to? 1.5 grams? I don't know why I can't figure this out but I am old and okay with the fact that I am not that smart.

Balance the arm, then set the tracking force to 1.5 grams if you wish to use the brush. When you don't, push the brush up until it clicks, then back off the tracking force to 1 gram.

While the maximum recommended tracking force for the V15MR is 1.5 grams (brush up)/2 grams (with brush down) I wouldn't go that high. I haven't met a record yet that the V15VMR can't track perfectly at 1 gram.
 
Really? But I thought I was seeking a force at the tip of 1.0? I don't know, that just seems wrong to me somehow

And by dialing in 1.5 grams and using it with the brush down, you are. You have to compensate for the half-gram weight of the brush/damping system exerting a resistive force by adding half a gram. The extra half-gram of VTF cancels out; the stylus tip only "sees" one gram. Kind of like using pare on a food scale to cancel out the weight of the container you are putting the food in to get the weight of the food.

Using the Shure Audio Obstacle Course LP that was a freebie when the cart was new, I found consistently across many arms I've had the cart on through the years that the proper anti-skate is pretty much the same as the tracking force set on the arm.
 
Happy to oblige! She is a pretty one, very well cared for. My first suspension table after years of using my dad's old Technics DD P-mount (which has served me well, God bless her). Just getting used to the nuances but I sense I have a winner on my hands here.
