Williemeyers is the "New Guy" referred to in this post, and has only made two posts, and both of them in this thread, and yes, they did follow the letter of the law, as first laid down.
However, as pointed out by M. Jarve when the "Dollars and Sense" forum was first initiated...

It has turned into a 24 hour shopping mall for hit and run posters who find something at a yard sale or in a basement, and join up just to see what the crap is worth, never to be heard from again, unless they find something else at another yardsale.
This kind of hit and run posting is rude, as well as ignorant. However, as Newbs, they may not be aware of this, and since in the thread Retro linked to, there are no guidelines posted as to this behavior being frowned upon, and they can not be taken to task for this.
This is why I politely pointed out to williemyers that this was not considered proper forum ettiquette.

O.K., I'm hooked(on knowing what they're worth) I've got a PS-X555ES with a Shure V15 Type IV that's roughly circa '88. It's got about 200+ hours on it. Works perfectly, but faded plastic cover. I checked eBay, but none show up in past sales. Any thoughts on what I ought to look for, *if* I decide to part with it?

My response was not rude, and was made in the spirit of goodwill, to help the Newb start off on the right foot. There was absolutely no need for the Newb to get mildly snotty with me. None.
Then we JP's brilliant insight tossed in. Apparently he didn't read the original posts....
"Jumping on his case right away and going on a rant is the last thing that will make a new member care to stick around. Perhaps you're not reacting to the problem, but a cause of it?"

There are two things that you will never do. . . Stop 1st time members from asking "What its worth" questions and stop the members at large from talking about eBay auctions period.
As I remember D&S was created just for the purpose of keeping this crap confined to one forum rather than have it spread throughout AK as a whole like it was before D&S.
I would welcome their posts or threads regardless of the subject matter (within limits of course) then guide that member along his career path here at AK in a more diplomatic and helpful manner. . .
Personally I don't see a problem unless it is one member jumping down the throat of a new member for doing what so many new and old members alike are doing in a forum designed for that type of posting. Not a problem. . .

Serious thanks to all of you who contributed information regarding the value of my turntable - I negotiated a mutually satisfactory price with a long-time AK member who was interested in purchasing it...it'll have a good home.
And even *more* serious thanks to those of you gracious enough to welcome me here to AK. Not to worry...takes a lot more than this experience to scare me off!
Finally...sadly, JP, I'm not *that* Bill Myers. He's a *serious* talent from Wilson, NC. I'm not even the Grammy-award winning arranger from LA! I'm just the one with 35+ years of orchestral film & TV scoring on my CV!

For what's its worth....

I sold mine on CL for $ 150- changing the mat, the headshell to an Orsonic, and putting it on a Mission Isoplat made a huge difference, it's a heck of a table for the money, but if it screws up, you are toast- Mark at the Turntable Factory is S.C. works on them, but getting parts and some repairs are just impossible- all that said, I would not mind having it back......

Ok, so I am a newbie here and also to forums peroid. I came across this (I think it's called a) thread when I googled "parts for Sony ps-x555es turntable", which btw I am looking for a dustcover...fat chance right? I'm working on one from turntabledepot.
Now my question is, what is the harm in asking for a value on something? After reading through it sounds like this table is not worth the space it takes up. So guys and or gals, go easy on me or I'll crawl back into my shell and join the rest of my personalities. I am 56 years young, have been messing with audio since my father (96) showed me a speaker from an automobile and explained how it works. I love vinyl and have commited myself to collecting TT's. I'm also a retired musician (guitar). I would like to be a regular contributor, this hobby is fun!
I am going to be aquiring one of these Sony's and would like to hear other opinions and advice. What carts have others tried and such.
