Value of IMF speakers

Interested in the value of a pair of IMF TLS80II in near perfect condition. Re-capped with Falcon Audio-provided caps, upgraded wire on woofers and mids, new 5-way binding posts, new grill cloth, all original drivers that all work, includes factory stands. Figure the Richmond Va, Nothern Va. market.

Thanks for responses.

I'm not sure of value on this particular model but someone will chime in. Always wanted to hear some IMF speakers. I hear they are nice all around, good bass...I imagine they might be a lot like my KEF's...which IMO is a very good thing!

Seen a few actually sold for around $1000 in the past few years, but seen many listed for way way more.

There's a couple listed on that auction site. Both above $1k, but nothing in completed sales.

My IMF RSPM Mk 1V Improved were 700 on the bay when I got them. Then I spent about another 400 for new matched mids and 3% cap kit from Falcon. So figure about 1000 or so with the work that was done sounds fair.

I actually passed on these at half the price a couple years ago, clearly they did not sell then.....but the Seattle market is way off as of late. Will add there was nothing that bad about them, it was more of a personal indecision and home sanctity choice than anything. lol, fast forward to even larger TDL's and yes sanctitywas disturbed for a month or so. :)

When? Recently? Years ago? Condition? I got a pair of TLS-80 for $300. But that was 7 years ago, and they were a little scruffy.

IMO that seems a reasonable price for that pair. Hell, I'd look into those myself if they weren't on the complete opposite side of the country from me.

I wish I knew. I always wanted to hear a nice pair of IMF's, and the 80's would be a good place to start. Plus, some Carver Amazing Platinum's and a pair of Infinity RS-IIB's down your way too. Tough (all good) choices.

Id think they would bring all of a grand especially if they were in decent kit and all original.I sold my pair of IMF als40a's last yrs for 450.00 and they have a smaller footprint and down the line a bit altho excellent sounding speakers

How is the BC market these days on speakers? Seattle is slow these days and I need to clean house.

The markets very slow compared to the last few but its been in decline for some time..to many people swallowing major house debt and no money left over for toys..
Nice thing about being debt free a guy can capitalize on the good stuff when its presented,
I do occasionally look at seattle and see some nice vintage tube gear...I'm a collector of Stephens Tru-sonic speakers as well..

sounds like a similar story to here.

This was about 2 years ago or so. They are in very nice condition. Some one had replace one of the mids with an incorrect driver so I just got a new matched set of mids from Falcon and sold the old mids to a member here. Remember though the TLS-80 are not quite the same as the RSPM Mk IV Improved.

Here is the story of mine. http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/my-imf-rspm-mkiv-improved-not-so-improved.575232/

My thought/point is that if people are gonna' quote prices, they also need to include condition , timeframe of purchase, specific model, etc. to have any kind of real meaning.......

Stimpy,
If you want to hear a pair, let me know.

Thanks for the offer. Those would definitely be sweet to hear. And we've got enough VA members here now at AK, that we could do an in-state get together. Get a chance to meet and greet and listen to some nice gear.

Thanks for the Hifishark suggestion. I checked it out, but once again found no completed sales, at least not in the US. I guess those who have them don't want to let them go. Understandable.

I would say $700-$1000. The ones you describe, if the condition is very good, would be worth $1000. I would not pay much more than that, however, as the RSPM Mk IV can be had for just a bit more at around $1200-$1500.
