I am now the proud owner of a mint VA Super PAS3. It is in near mint condition. I have this currently paired with my ST-70 with the Welborne mods. I am sofar pleased with everything about it except for what seems to be a lack of bottom end to it and I'm wondering if this is due to the tube lineup its currently running. I had the ST-70 and my KG-4's paired with a Marantz 2265 as a pre-amp and it sounded wonderful. Plenty of bottom end, gorgeous mids and highs albeit I had tone controls to work with when using the 2265.
So my questions are what would be the best tubes to run with the PAS3? Currently running (4) Tung Sol 12AX7's
I know the tone controls are usually deleted to attain that pure straight through tube sound BUT.....Could they be added back in or would it be too much work because of the VA mods?
