I had this same problem once however I got around it by contacting the owner of the local UPS store. I pre-arranged to have them packed and shipped via the UPS store so the owner only had to drop them off at that particular location - which just happened to be 2 blocks away....
Might be an option for you if you're going to need them properly packed anyway.. ...

Well the price is right on the speakers - problem is that spending $200 to ship $300 speakers is a bit counter-intuitive.

Maybe an idea for you is to have a US parcel service you send items to. I have this down in North Dakota, and switch to this address when I am bidding on US eBay only items. With the price (and reliability) of items on eBay lately, I seldom do this any more, but it is always nice to have the option.
