Vandersteen 2CE stand (and sock) dilemma

There are so many different variations of the 2c’s that of course some people will love or hate them . What I can say is the 2ce signatures are a different animal than the previous. Another thing is allot of people don’t want to take the time to set them up correctly for their room, these are not a set-em forget-em speaker, and lastly, some or just don’t like the Vandersteen sound , good thing there are thousands of other speakers out there to discover, but I’m happy with my vandys :thumbsup:

If they weren't so bulky or heavy, someone could do a nice job refurbishing these and other speakers. :thumbsup: Someone with a powder coating setup could also redo the stands, either refurbishing to the original matte black or any one of dozens of custom colors.

It might also have been a cool idea if Vandersteen had made these easy to disassemble; imagine being able to buy yourself a new look with a new socks and end caps in a bunch of different colors, with nothing more than a screwdriver needed to make the change.

I'm looking at a pair of Von Schweikert VR-35s at the moment, and they used the same approach--to keep costs down for the end user, they use a sock and end caps.

It's also highly dependent on the source. I briefly auditioned these attached to a receiver and they were mush. But at home on a Pass-designed amp or my current C-J tubes, they present nicely. My ultimate? No. I'm awaiting the right deal on some stats, the Von Schweikert I mentioned earlier, or a pair of ProAc D48Rs (once the pre-owned price drops).

Although we should get back on track--complaints/raves about the sound can take place in another thread, as this one's about refurbishing, etc.. ;)

I found a link (which I posted higher up in the thread) about how the top cap could be disassembled. I could do the textile work myself, but if someone could CNC machine new end caps and the piece of board to which the top fabric attaches, that would solve so many problems. For myself, I'm leaning towards a mahogany look (doesn't matter what type of wood, as I can stain it to match), as my equipment rack is also the same color. For that matter, I wouldn't mind having new wood shelves made out of matching wood, slightly thicker than what they are now.

And yes, I would pay for it. I can finish the wood myself (staining/protecting) but having someone else provide the wood already cut out takes care of my not having woodworking tools to do the same work.

I wonder if those cabinet shops could machine bamboo. I really like the look but, not knowing how hard bamboo is, they might not be able to machine it if it is so hard that they tear up their tooling.

with you. I was very surprised to fine out how much the sound improves with the
mid at -2 dB and tweeter at +1, it will depend on your room but certainly try the controls.

The bass is an 8" woofer with about 3mm Xmax throw and a 10" boosted (passive)
radiator - that does not provide much volume displacement. Consider that the
Genesis 2 has an 8" with 6mm Xmax and also a 10" radiator. The EV Interface A
has an 8" with a 12" PR, a large PR is really needed so that it doesn't overload
and compress.

Just an FYI that 10in woofer is not passive it’s active.

I also second the vandys like allot of watts the more you give them the better they sing , I started with 150wpc with mine ended with 305wpc and with each boost in watts they got better and better.

I have way more headroom and at lower volumes on my system it sounds much more full on the vandys , it’s the headroom my amp has that the vandys love.
