Variety of DeoxIT

Went on Amizon to get DeoxIT. Turns out there is quite a variety that one can use.

D = All purpose, G = gold surfaces F = fader (?) There is D5S6, D100, DN5, you can get spray, brush apply, needle applicator, Squeeze tube.

Which one is the most recommended? My Guess that it's a "D" variety and probably spray. What do you like / use?

D5 in the spray can is the all around go to for control cleaning. Use it sparingly - it's got an adjustable spray, and I always leave it on low and just use short shots. The D100 is the straight stuff with no reducer. Not recommended except for professional use.

Little trick I use is spraying the D5 into a needle bottle and using that for switches. I also do clock repair and get those from my supplier. Great control and you can get the cleaner exactly where you want it. If you look close, you can see little holes along the length of these gang switches that the needle fits right into. A drop in each, and turn the board around a bit to make sure you get good coverage.

I also make trick straws for hitting otherwise hard to reach areas. Save the old ones - you can heat and bend them, or even stretch them with heat shrink.

The Fader is more of a lubricant, to be used after a D5 cleaning, which can leave the contact areas a bit dry and cause excessive wear over time.

The Gold is for improving connectivity. Get a bottle vice the can. A drop on speaker, tube pins, or cable connections works wonders. Pretty expensive stuff, but a little bit goes a long way.

sKiZo in your post above you mentioned a "needle bottle" would you be able to post a picture of a needle bottle and what kind of store a person could purchase one. Thank you.

They say a pic is worth a thousand words ... maybe a couple more words are in order here ...

(ahem)

It's in the pic!! :D

Not sure where you could get them locally - kind of a specialty item, doncha know.

Real handy little devils though. For the money, pick up some spares. Cross contamination is never really a good thing on chemicals, but I find all sorts of uses for them. Rebuilt a 5 tube RCA table top radio recently and filled one with a watered down wood glue to squeeze into some smallish cracks in the veneer. Label it and cap it off and save it for the next project.

Thanks for the link, its pretty much what I thought it would be, just wanted to make sure. I will now search the web to see if I can find them for sale in Canada.

Thanks very much sKiZo for the tips. My D5 is now on order and soon to be on the way.

One thing I find somewhat curious - just for fun I put your longitude and latitude coordinates into Google maps to see where you are and it gave me the location of the Down Syndrome Association of West Michigan. (?) Uhhh - please tell me this is an error.... or maybe you have an interesting sense of humor?
