I’m considering picking up this Vector Research VR-7000 on CL but am wondering what a good price would be for the unit - $250 seems a bit high to me. I’m currently running a Harman Kardon PM640, don’t really need a new amp per se, but am looking for something with a bit more power than the HK.

I’ve chatted with the seller a bit and she says it’s been stored on a shelf in her basement for several years (photos seem to confirm), but it looks to be in pretty decent shape other than the dinged corner and some dust. It belonged to her father and she doesn’t know whether it was ever serviced.

Anyone familiar with these older VR units that could suggest whether this is worth an offer or I should move on? I may go check it out this week, but it’s a bit of a drive.

I have a VR-5000 and they are rarish and well built units. Id offer 200. She sounds to know plenty based on her ad....I dont by the story....If it were her dads and she didnt know anything about audio it would be priced at 50.00.

i paid $85 shipped for my vr5000, broken.

i read the ad and it did not sound like people actually talk unless they are reviewers

i love my vr5000. the phono stage leaves a bit to be desired tho.

can you bypass it and hook up your own phono preamp?

i've got several units with great sounding phono stages, it is not in my future to buy a separate phono pre. ;)

you heard my akai. that one sounds great and it's no where near my yamaha pre or sx1010. my fisher pre has a killer phono stage as well.

The price is high for a VR unit, but they are entirely worth it; nobody's heard of them so the market is limited. I sold a 9000 last year for a bit less than that, beautifully crafted machine, great variable loudness in particular.

Looks like I spent too long deliberating, it sold while I was dragging my feet.

Will keep an eye out for VR amps going forward, I’m definitely intrigued.
 
Yeah. The similar wattage units from marantz, pioneer or sansui would cost 3x that listed price. Definitely worth 250 for what you get.
 
The VR-7000 is a sleeper - I would have offered $200 and grabbed it at that price.
But I already have one.,..
