Vertical Klipsch Cornwall Score!

I just bought a pair of vertical Klipsch Cornwall II's off craigslist! Very fair price considering their condition and rarity. These are from 1971, "J" date code, in beautiful walnut oil. Almost a "butt cheek" looking grain on one, see pics. The grills are pretty well stuck on, probably never removed. Haven't opened the back. Would they have the standard Cornwall drivers? Anyone know which woofer they used in 71? Got them hooked up to my Scott 299c and they sound awesome! May really give my Altec Flamenco's a run for their money!:scratch2: It was a good day!:thmbsp:

I wasn't aware there were horizontal Cornwalls. Am I just dumb?

Congrats, those look beautiful.

In the earlier Cornwalls, some of the horns were oriented with the long axis vertical on the baffle board.

That is a beautiful pair of Cornwalls. You ought to start a new thread in the Klipsch forum as well.

I'm not sure why they made vertical and horizontal Cornwalls? What is also confusing is they are labeled "Cornwall II" which is also the horizontal model that replaced the original cornwalls in the 80's. They had the plastic horns that were screwed to the front of the motorboard instead of the rear, different crossovers as well. These do need some cleaning and I will open the backs tomorrow. Kind of curious if it's an Electro Voice woofer or???? I think they used Speakerlab and Eminence at different times. They sound great, more articulate high than the Altec's, no doubt the three way vs. two way. I think the bass is a bit more accurate and slightly lower on the Altecs, mids are very comparable. Unfortunately, the Scott has only one set of outputs so a true A/B is not an option with it. I do have a Yammy integrated I just picked up with two outputs that will work. Something else to do tomorrow.
